Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2014

The Standard Chartered KL Marathon came and went. It was held on the 12th October 2014.

I however am not at the stage where I feel ready to tackle a marathon yet. So I just entered the 10K cruise event.

Here's a POV video of the run taken with a GoPro camera. Pardon the cheesy music, I just selected the default royalty free music offered by YouTube which is of similar length with the video.

Below is the result.

Sepang F1 Circuit Merdeka Day Run

31st August is Malaysia's Independence Day. One of the events this year is a run around the Sepang International F1 Circuit.

Here's a video of the run :-

It wasn't actually a race. The organisers just allowed members of the public to run for free. Well almost free. You have to pay RM10 if you wanted the medal which I did. The medal looks pretty cool so it was really a bargain.
Truth be told I would have gladly paid more just to be able to run on the famous track.

How cool is that to have the familiar outline of the Sepang F1 track recorded by the Nike Run app using the GPS.

I was running wearing a GoPro camera and this guy in a Spider-Man costume saw me and did a pose after overtaking me.

Being overtaken sucks especially when the guy is wearing a silly costume.

It cuts, deep. There were other events going on among them is a car show with various sports cars.
My favourite are the Lamborghinis on display.
The Lamborghinis were just next to a row of Porsches. But after I saw the Lambos those Porsches just disappeared from my consciousness.

Now with Sepang done my next goal is to run Nürburgring Nordschleife.

Hah!

Featured Running Spot - Bandar Sri Damansara

There is a 4.5km loop around Bandar Sri Damansara which is another favourite running location of mine. Having said that I'm a bit hesitant of recommending this location because the times when it is good to run here is a bit limited.

What I like about this place is the gentle gradient of the hills and the nice 4.5km circle which is not too short and not too far. I normally do a 10km run running twice around this area. The best time to run is in the early mornings between 5:30am to 7am on the weekdays and up to mid-afternoon on the the weekends. The reason for this limited hours is because there is narrow spaces at some point in the route which makes it a bit challenging when traffic gets heavy. You can see what I mean from the video down below where some areas there are sidewalks and some there are nome and you have to run carefully on the road shoulder.

Another plus is this is a residential are with a lot of shops, restaurants and petrol station so there's plenty of parking and toilet facilities and you feel quite safe.

The Social Media Runner

LOL! This is so true in todays social-media connected world.

Well I say whichever mind-tricks that gets you motivated with your running is fine with me. It doesn't really matters if your online friends are interested or not as long as it gets you out the door and running, that's all that's matters.

Featured Running Spot - Taman Metropolitan Kepong

Taman Metropolitan Kepong is one of my favourite places to run in Kuala Lumpur. It features a 3.5km rubberised running track going around a scenic lake and wooded area. The park is very well maintained with clean surroundings and toiled facilities. Opening hours is between 6am to 8pm daily. It can be a bit crowded on the weekends and very much deserted on weekdays afternoon.

This is a video of a run around the lake.

Here's another video beautifully done by a YouTube user called Yazid Munchy. I just love his stunning areal shots of the park.

The blue track is the rubberised running track which goes around the lake.
Below is a view from the jetty next to a boathouse.

There are a few observation towers around the park and this is taken atop one of them near a wooded area.

This is what the observation tower looks like.

Here's a view from another observation tower showing a wider view of the running track.

Resting Heartrate

Initial VO2 Max

Welcome to My Running Blog

Hi there,

I'm a runner based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. An average guy with average to below average athletic abilities.

I've started running nearly two years ago as a way of losing weight and becoming fit.

Since then I've entered about 20+ races around Malaysia mostly in 10km.

I'm curious to find out how far an average person can progress in running performance with regular training and this blog will be a platform to document this progress.

So hopefully the things that I've learned in this journey can be of help to someone else.

:)
