I’m a bit of a health nut, doing regular exercise and trying to eat healthy I recently started drinking hot cocoa (one tablespoon without sugar) at breakfast after reading a lot about its high antioxidant content. I immediately started noticing that on the days I was consuming that beverage, I was feeling pretty noticable depression. So I started searching for it online and noticed a few articles about it, especially notable is this article on CNN. To take a few quotes :- “According to a study published this week in the Archives of Internal Medicine, people who feel depressed eat about 55 percent more chocolate than their non-depressed peers. And the more depressed they feel, the more chocolate they tend to eat.” “It's unclear, however, whether depressed people eat more chocolate simply because they crave it, or whether chocolate consumption itself somehow contributes to a depressed mood.” “The men and women who were considered to be depressed ate 8.4 servings of chocolate per month, while their counterparts who weren't depressed consumed just 5.4 servings each month.” The link to the above article is here :- http://cnn.it/2773LpZ Well, for me at least, it is the cocoa which gives me depression rather than the other way round. Chocolate is toxic to animals which explains why only humans eat the cacao beans and for animals which are overly sensitive to it like dogs, digesting chocolate can be fatal. Of course, chocolate is a multi-billion dollar industry so they have tons of funds to pay for scientific ‘research’ to show the ‘benefits’ of eating chocolate on top of other advertising and marketing. Not to be a downer or anything, I have nothing against chocolate, I do enjoy it occasionally but if you are feeling depressed probably this could be something in your diet that you can try to remove or reduce. At least temporarily. #chocolate #depression #mood #moody #cocoa
